Are you coming to Colorado Springs to take on the APEX?

Let us help you start planning with some recommendations on where to stay and 4 things to do while you're here!

First, you'll need a good place to stay, and we have arranged it. Nestled into a neighborhood on the edge of Garden of the Gods and less than a one-mile-bike-ride from the start of Day Two of the Pikes Peak APEX, The Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort is the perfect place to stay during the event. Torie and the crew have promised to take good care of you, and they are offering all APEX participants 50% off of their recently renovated signature rooms. This is a unique, specialty property with limited space, so be sure to reserve your room soon! You can cancel anytime up until two weeks before the event, so your reservation is risk-free.

What are some things you can do while you are staying at the Buffalo Lodge?  Here are a few of our favorites that are right next to your accommodations!

Visit the Garden of the Gods Park

Garden of the Gods Park is America’s most visited city park for a reason--dramatic views, 300' towering sandstone rock formations against a backdrop of snow-capped Pikes Peak and brilliant blue skies. The start of Friday’s stage is at Garden of the Gods Trading Post on the western side of the park, but the front entrance near the visitor center is one of the most photographed areas in the state.  Entrance to the park is free and there are plenty of hiking and biking trails for all ages to enjoy. Inside tip—ride your mountain bike on the southeast trails where bikes are allowed and cruise around in historic Rock Ledge Ranch—an often overlooked area in the park.

Take a drive to the top of 14,115-foot Pikes Peak

If you want to experience life on the top of a Colorado icon, take the drive up to the top of Pikes Peak. There is a paved road all the way to the top (you can also ride your bike) where you can see all of the Colorado Springs area to the east and into the snow-topped Rocky Mountains to the west. Inside Tip--don’t forget to grab a few of their famous homemade donuts at the Summit House!

Hopefully, construction on the new Summit House Complex will be complete by September. It is one of the most unusual projects in the country right now. GE Johnson, a supporting partner of The APEX, is the construction company in charge of the new summit house build. Check out one of their incredible videos.

Do some shopping in Manitou Springs

The Bicycle Resort is right in between downtown Colorado Springs and Historic Manitou Springs, home of the famous Incline, downtown shops and natural springs. Whether you are looking for a  great coffee shop, brewery, or unique clothing store, Manitou has it.  Inside tip—bring the whole family to the Arcade—a classic arcade with skee-ball, horse racing, and all of your favorite arcade games.

Drop by Trails End Taproom for a cold beverage

The Trails End Taproom is a fixture in the Colorado Springs cycling community and less than a mile bike ride from the Buffalo Resort.  This buy-by-the-ounce taproom features local beers as well as coffee and kombucha on their 40 taps. They are huge supporters of the event, the local IMBA chapter, and the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance.  Inside tip—make sure you get an order of the Trail Tacos along with an IPA of your choice.
