A veteran of The APEX, BC Bike Race, and just coming off a 3rd place finish in the 3-day edition of Breck Epic, Maria knows a thing or two about big adventures! The Sugar Beets Cycling rider isn’t into race placement—she was thoroughly surprised to learn she was competitive in the Breck Epic. For Maria, an event is about immersing yourself in nature, enjoying the journey, and embracing the people you meet along the way. Not physically embracing these days! It’s more about being present and celebrating life. But we’ll let her tell you the rest in Episode 5 of The BEET.
Sugar Beets Cycling
We hear some hesitations out there, and we have solutions to calm those fears. With roughly 2 months until the 2021 edition of the Pikes Peak APEX presented by RockShox, we don’t want you to miss out!
Becky Mikrut brings The BEET in this episode. Becky made her debut in the Women's Pro XC race just a couple of weeks ago in Winter Park, Colorado, during USA Cycling's National Championships. Designer by day and cross country racer by passion, Becky created the Sugar Beets' team jerseys this season. She's taking a bit of rest post XCO season, and then readying herself for Pikes Peak APEX! It'll be her first time at The APEX, and participating in any kind of stage event, but her background as a cycling coach has helped her shape a solid roadmap. Watch as she shares her plans to smash it come September!
If you are in the Fort Collins, CO area Wednesday, July 21st at 7pm, please join us when we meet up with The BEETS at Road 34 for a Soiree & APEX Q&A.
In this Rider Spotlight, I'm talking with my team, Sugar Beets Cycling. You might see The Beets sprinkled in with The APEX and wonder about what the two have in common other than cycling. Well, we're on a mission to bring more women to the sport, and we've been working together to help bring more women to events like The APEX.
You know those butterflies of excitement and anxiety that flutter around when you're at the start line? You do know that whether it’s your first or 100th time, every rider feels those, right?!
Let’s celebrate that feeling! We’re planning a party, and here’s why.
Of course you recognize Sam as part of The APEX team, but she is also a certified athletic trainer who helps empower endurance athletes to prevent and overcome injury. Tune in to learn how to hydrate to ward off heat illness and enhance your performance. Did you know that even 2% water loss in your body leads to dehydration which can cause your performance to suffer? Sam reveals the optimal amount you should be drinking and explains electrolytes, and why they are so important for optimal hydration and performance.
Since our second episode of The BEET premieres in May, we’re keeping with our Mother’s Day theme and bringing you advice for training when you have kids at home. Anna is a single mom, with two elementary school-age children at home. She also races for Sugar Beets Cycling at the pro level and finished 3rd in the Women’s 40+ category at the inaugural Pikes Peak APEX. What's her secret?
The statistics don't lie. Half of cyclists are female. Less than one-third participate in organized events. It's easy to offer an equal payout. It's so much harder to have an equal number roll up to the start line. We're taking a hard look at what we can do to inspire and empower women to participate in events like The APEX.
Episode 1 features Celeste Cannon, 2nd place finisher in the Women’s 40+ category at last year’s Pikes Peak APEX presented by RockShox, who just happens to be the two-time reigning Colorado State XC Champion. Celeste tells us what she is doing differently this season to prepare. It’s something all of us should be tuned in to! Take a look, and bear with us..it was a little windy when this was shot.
