Torie Griffin, with her mother and grandmother

There are four generations of cyclists at the Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort. Torie Griffin, along with her mother, grandmother and children, are gearing up for a big 5th Anniversary this week! The Lodge is over 100 years old, and the renovations to create a community for cyclists are about 80% complete.  Every detail carefully thought through to cater to the cycling culture—from bike washes, to in-room bike storage, location, room décor and events on the property.

“For me its like a slice of Americana, where kids and families just rode their bikes around the neighborhood. When you run into other bicyclists, there’s automatically a connection. This shared comradery, sense of wanderlust and adventure. We just all come together like a family,” muses Torie.

This weekend, Torie and family are celebrating the Lodge’s 5th anniversary with the Buffalo Stampede. They are hosting a 40 mile bike ride, a shorter ride up Gold Camp Rd, Strava hill climb challenges with prize money, a waffle breakfast, Smokin’ J’s BBQ food truck, and live music on the lawn all day!  There will be raffle prizes and Spirit of the Buffalo Award, whatever that means to you, says Torie. Sofa Killers, a super versatile cover band, are headlining the show at 5:30pm. Tickets and more information about the Buffalo Birthday Bash can be found at www.bicycleresort.com under Events.

“You can ride in, hang your bike on the wall. We wanted to celebrate that, and let more people know about it" proclaims Torie "It’s quite an undertaking renovating a 100-year-old property. We’re really taking this iconic hotel and turning it into a resort property for cyclists.”

All summer long you’ll find fun happenings at Buffalo Lodge! Happy Hour at The Watering Hole inside the main lodge features local Colorado craft beer and sippin’ moonshine from 4-6pm each day. Mondays and Tuesdays bike rides leave from the Lodge, and on Saturdays Torie herself leads a free community ride from the resort with about 30 riders. Wednesday nights a local running club meets for a fun all-paces-welcome run, then stretch out and relax with yoga on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Buffalo Lodge Bicycle Resort is ideally located for adventures in Colorado Springs. Location was incredibly important in creating the cycling resort for Griffin, she explained, “You can grab your bike, ride out of your room and up to Garden of the Gods or Pikes Peak. And, the adventure is just waiting out the door, less than 1 mile away.”

That location makes the lodge the ideal lodging venue for the Pikes Peak APEX presented by RockShox. You can ride easily to many of the start lines each day. Looking forward to the APEX this September, Torie and gang have planned to continue the party, giving you a chance to experience lodge-life a bit. Yoga for Cyclists will be offered by the pool on Thursday night. Live music is on the schedule for Friday. If you still have as much energy as Torie, there will dancing in the pavilion on Saturday! If you want something more serene, the pool is a beautiful place to relax and recover. Also, new for this year and something you won't find at many properties is the newly opened Base Camp Bike Shop. It is on the property should you need any mechanical work or a bike wash during the APEX.

With you usual excitement, Torie closes with “I just hope everyone leaves feeling like they found their people.”
